Among other trekking destination Everest Base Camp trekking is the most desired by many trekkers and a visit to Mount Everest is the life time dream of many people. Being the ideal chance to take in the majestic mountain and the splendid beauty of the region’s scenery this trek takes its position in the top rank amongst trekking on the world stage. This trek winds, climbs and descends its way through lush low land and alpine forest, Buddhist monasteries and authentic Sherpa Villages. Highlights of this trek includes the lifestyle of the Himalayan people, their religion, customs and traditions, rare birds like the golden eagle, snow pigeon, red-billed and yellow-billed choughs and flowers like rhododendron, magnolias, blue pine, chir pine, juniper and hemlock make the trekking a delight for nature lovers.

Everest Base Camp trekking involves a remarkable amount of up and down walking. Tea house trekking is possible on the main trail to Everest Base Camp. While the visit to Everest Base Camp is the goal for many trekkers, the view of Everest itself from the base camp can be disappointing. For the best views of Everest we recommend taking the Kalapatter Trek. This trek can be completed in conjunction with the Everest Base Camp Trek.

Mardi Himal Trek

Laura van Gessel
Amstelveen, The Netherlands
Aug 10, 2017

"This was my first trek ever, and I loved it!!

I did volunteering work at Swarga Children's Home in Bhaktapur (same owner as Himalayan Moment) for 10 weeks. After this amazing experience I went on the Mardi Himal trek with my boyfriend in April 2017.
He made a summary of our trek:
On the first day I arrived in Bhaktapur in the evening and I was picked up by Krishna from the airport. I was very tired from my journey, but Krishna and his wife Roshni made me feel immediately at home at their guest house “The Heart of Bhaktapur”. The rooms there were excellent with an en-suite bathroom and shower. The breakfast is freshly prepared every day and is absolutely delicious; a great way to start your day! Especially the secret-recipe Kurd is out of this world.

The next day we met our guide for the week: Sanjeet. We immediately saw that Sanjeet is a amicable and very friendly person who speaks English really well. Sanjeet would be our go-to-guy for the entire week and that would prove very helpful during the trek and the stays at the tea lodges, but more on that later on.

After we had met Sanjeet we went to the airport to catch our domestic flight to Pokhara. When we arrived at Pokhara, a car was arranged ahead by Himalayan moments and we could immediately get into the car that drove us to the hotel. When we arrived at the hotel, the only thing we had to do was check in and refresh ourselves in the room. The rest was taken care of by Himalayan Moments. After a quick lunch we were shown the plan for the trek of the coming week and after that we took a walking tour of city of Pokhara with Sanjeet. He asked us what we wanted to do and for how long the walking tour should last beforehand. We decided that we would take a walk of about 3 hours through Pokhara. After that, we split for dinner and we met the following morning to leave for our trek.

That morning our trek finally began. We met our porter and the four of us were driven to Kande. Again, Sanjeet had arranged a car to Kande, the starting point for our trek. Our porter took care of our backpack and the only thing we had to carry was the day backpack with our water bottles and camera’s. The porter and his salary and expenses were included in the price and was taken care of by Himalayan Moments.

Sanjeet adjusted the walking pace to our capabilities and the morning flew by. We had to stop at the check point to get our permits for the trekking area but that was all taken care of by Sanjeet so all we had to do was rest for a bit. Shortly after we arrived at the lunch site and all we had to do was order our lunch and relax. Breakfast lunch and dinner was included at all the tea lodges and Sanjeet was our translator to Nepalese so we would not have to invest our energy in ordering the food in a different language. In the afternoon we reached the first overnight place at Forest Camp. Again, Sanjeet had reservations on the room so all we had to do was place our bags in the room and head for dinner and relax.

The following days were very similar; we would give Sanjeet our orders for breakfast the evening ahead and he would make sure that the breakfast was served on time when we woke up. Every day was very well planned with well-timed rests in between during trekking.

On days the climbs were steeper, we would walk a bit shorter on that day and the days that the trail was a bit flatter we would make more hours. Even though we were not extremely high, Sanjeet was very careful with possible altitude disease. From the third day on we would reach our overnight staying place and have lunch and after lunch we would climb to about 500 meter higher to acclimatize at that altitude and then descend down again to the tea lodge. Since we were inexperienced trekkers and did not know a lot about altitude disease it was very assuring that Sanjeet took precaution with the height and acclimatization."

"I am a Mountain lover, my passion is to do trek close to Himalayas and see the great sights of high snow capped mountains. I did some research online about trekking in Nepal then found Himalayan Moment. From the very first e-mail they did quick response and provide us detail information we required. They were always available to answer my queries. I was sure my trek will go safe and very enjoyable.
Our guide Sanjeet was very nice, he was always available and made sure that everything we needed in teahouse and on the trail always ready to help us. He was extremely knowledgeable about the region, trekking trail, mountains name and their height. Every evening he explain following days plan and schedule that was very reassuring and kept us focused and relaxed.
We have done Everest Cho-la Pass trek, it was a great trip and I already planned to go back after couple of years for next adventure with Himalayan Moment.

"Hiking from close to Jiri to Lukla was my route, while my partner continued on to Base Camp. Although my trek was shorter, the magnitude of what I experienced was life-changing. The service provided by the company, the guide and the Sherpas can only be described as being well above anything expected. The coordination of the entire trip - from arrival to Kathmandu to leaving Nepal - was amazing.Absolutely everything was scheduled to the point where one didn't have to do anything more than to be on location. The actual trek was very demanding, but our guide Mann supported us at every turn. His professionalism, knowledge and personality were a treat. I would recommend this company to anyone and would be glad to provide personal details to whoever might need more information....either call or email me"
